Guided Play - will be held from May through September each year

Guided Play (GP) is an educational program for newer pickleball players that have become PCPA members. GP allows them to receive instruction from a more advanced player to improve their skills (serve, soft game at net, scoring, rules of the game, 3rd shot "drop shot," volleys, lob, etc.). GP also creates an opportunity to meet and play with a variety of PCPA players

Please email pueblocounty.pcpa@gmail.com if you are interested in participating in GP. Please note your skill level (1, 2 or 3) and your availability dates and times. Most new students will be Level 1 or 2. A confirmation will be emailed to you. Skill level descriptions are posted below to help you determine your appropriate GP skill level of a 1, 2 or 3. If you are uncertain, your instructor can also assist you in determining your appropriate skill level.

Guided Participants need to bring their own paddle and balls

The Backhand Roll with Ben Johns

Viewed in real time, it’s very difficult to see what is actually happening during a pickleball stroke.

Since the body moves faster than the eye can see, what you think you’re seeing is often not what is actually there.

That is why when we attempt to copy pro strokes without getting the appropriate guidance, things can often go very wrong.

If you misinterpret what they’re doing as they hit and attempt to model it, then not only might you develop bad habits but you can hurt yourself in the process.

Many often think they see a big wrist snap...usually that’s not true.

Many often think there’s a big backswing...usually that’s also not true.

Many often think the pros are swinging their arm very hard...again...not true.

Many of these things appear to be true when spectating high level player matches either live or on video.

Yet...

...once you slow things down and break them down, you start to see that one by one these illusions fall to the side.

That’s why we like to do slow motion and stop motion analysis of pro level strokes so that you can see what’s really happening and implement it in your game.

Here’s a step by step breakdown we did of Ben Johns and one of his favorite shots: The Backhand Roll:

See what key positions you need to be achieving in your stroke in order to roll the backhand and wreak havoc on your opponents like Ben.

Happy Pickling!
